Social Justice Rising Youth Fellowship

In partnership with TCJC Texas Criminal Justice Coalition, The Social Justice Rising Youth Fellowship is an opportunity for youth to better understand how to advocate for social issues affecting their lives and what their role in solving these issues is. This fellowship focuses on teaching community driven policy with the goal of reforming theses policies and practices, providing services for youth, and reallocating funds to support youth related issues. Fellows work alongside state representatives to create bills and learn about issues related to budget and policy.

Through this fellowship we hope to prepare the youth to work alongside agencies and stakeholders that are seeking individuals with lived experience, create policy and agendas, change the current conditions of vulnerable youth, influence the way youth related issues are thought of, and increase youth participation in Houston local elections.

This fellowship will take place from January - May in a professional and in-person setting. There will be five areas of focus 1. Juvenile Justice 2. Child Welfare 3. Homelessness 4. Mental Health/Chemical Dependencies 5. Sex Work

The fellows will be awarded $5000 each followed by a graduation ceremony after the completion of the fellowship.
