Youth Organizing

Collective Action for Youth operates in five key target areas that significantly impact youth, often in ways that are not immediately visible. Our areas of focus include child welfare, education, juvenile justice, mental health, and ending youth homelessness. The communities we serve are frequently exposed to these challenges and are more likely to experience them firsthand.

Education Advocacy in Houston

Education in Houston is undergoing substantial changes, directly affecting the youth we serve. We empower and support a group of young students who are proactively advocating for their future. Our support includes joining them in protests, creating safe spaces for panel discussions, and facilitating the development of a youth-led campaign. Over the past year, Houston Independent School District (HISD) has faced significant changes, including the loss of principals, major student-led walkouts, and student panels sharing their experiences. Many students have expressed that school no longer feels like a safe space, especially after the state takeover. In response, we have provided a support system to help them navigate these uncertain times.

Community Engagement and Support

We host community working groups twice a month, offering activities that our youth enjoy and providing platforms for them to advocate for their education. We seek community support to enhance our efforts. Despite their enthusiasm and potential, our young advocates face limitations due to their age and the challenges they encounter. We invite the community to support us by following our social media pages and participating in our community working groups.

Your involvement and support can make a significant difference in the lives of these young advocates and contribute to positive change in our community.
